How else are we going to deal militant fundamentalists? If the English speaking Christians in Northern Ireland, like the IRA Catholics and Protestant Orangemen have problems. Only an armed perceived neutral has a chance to stop those prone to revenge. How else do you stop the Israeli Likud building a synagogue alongside a Muslim Shrine in East Jerusalem behind a US Blessed, Sub Rosa Nuclear Shield? Or on the other hand the escalating violence between Sunni and Shite Muslims, Christian and Muslim . Hindu and Muslim ? Or the secret ways, western capitalists, undermine and destroy elected socialist nations? Why not go along with Sen. Jesse Helms agenda, and move the UN headquarters out of USA to say .... ....Jerusalem? Then reprogram our ally Israelis Nuclear Missiles Shield, so they can't be used without the approval of the UN General Assembly? Thereby, by passing a Security Council Veto? •••@••.••• ----- Original Message ----- From: Jan Slakov <•••@••.•••> To: <•••@••.•••> Sent: Tuesday, August 08, 2000 10:23 PM Subject: rn: Nader on need for peace "force" Dear RN, I want to share this little note that Hans Sinn sends to us.... Ralph Nader does not explicitly say that the peace force should be unarmed. I tend to think that unarmed peace workers ought to replace our armed forces. But certainly peace forces which included some members with some arms, and which were "well trained and ready by certain criteria to prevent such slaughters" would be infinitely better than what we have now! all the best, jan ********************************************************************* Date: Mon, 07 Aug 2000 09:19:06 -0400 From: "Mel Duncan" <•••@••.•••> (by way of Hans Sinn <•••@••.•••>) Subject: [nonviolentpeaceforce] Hi Jan, After following the discussion among our US friend[s] about to vote or not to vote for Ralph Nader I just received the following note from Mel Duncan, who in turn just received the tape of a recent radio program during which Ralph Nader said the following (which obviously endears him to our hearts) [All the best, Hans] ********************************************************************* Speaking on the radio program 18, "Democracy Now," in the middle of July Ralph Nader stated, " What we need to is to declare as a foreign policy that nonviolence is the top priority, and we define (non)violence not just in terms of preventing war but in actively waging peace.and that means having a multilateral peace force not dominated by the US, well trained ahead of any of the conflicts, well trained and ready by certain criteria to prevent such slaughters as 600,000 Rwandans or the slaughter in Yugoslavia. Obviously, this requires very, very careful international cooperation. But we've got to do it in a much more deliberate, farsighted, preventive manner than at the present time and we shouldn't dominate it." Mel Duncan Peaceworkers 801 Front Ave ST.
