Dear Rn list, Jan. 27 Viviane Lerner sent us notice of a TV program to be shown tonight on "Iraq's continuing nuclear threat". I have no doubt that Iraq's government would be continuing to arm itself with nuclear weapons if it could, and for all I know, it may still be able to do so. But, of course, Iraq is not the only country which poses a nuclear threat; it would be idiotic to bomb any one of these countries; instead of bombing or other types of violence, surely it makes sense to support those elements of our societies which are working to bring an end to the nuclear threat. Actually, there is a global campaign to abolish nuclear weapons, called Abolition 2000. Viviane Lerner has sent the message below to an abolition address. Write to them if you would like to find out more about this campaign. Or write to me; I have lots of information on it. all the best, Jan PS Most people who are "up in arms" about Iraq's nuclear threat either do not know or choose to ignore the fact that the US used depleted uranium (DU) in the "ordinance" it dumped not only on Iraq, but also in Yugoslavia. So, I will include a message about the DU bullets used in Iraq that Viviane Lernere sent us earlier. Sometimes people need to SEE what DU does. If so, I recommend they get ahold of a copy of the Jan. 10 issue of the _Manchester Guardian_, which shows some pretty disturbing photos of children suffering from the after effects of DU. *********************************************************************** Date: Tue, 26 Jan 1999 22:00:52 -1000 To: •••@••.•••, •••@••.•••, •••@••.•••, •••@••.•••, •••@••.•••, •••@••.•••, •••@••.•••, KYLE KAJIHIRO <•••@••.•••>, •••@••.•••, •••@••.•••, •••@••.•••, wilpf <•••@••.•••> From: viviane lerner <•••@••.•••> Subject: Fwd: Upcoming "60 Minutes II" Report on Iraq's Nuclear Threat Wednesday Night 9PM EST Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Date: Tue, 26 Jan 1999 19:42:50 -0500 From: Scott Portzline <•••@••.•••> Subject: Upcoming "60 Minutes" Report on Iraq's Nuclear Threat Date: Tue, 26 Jan 1999 18:46:02 -0500 From: Nuclear Control Institute <•••@••.•••> Subject: Upcoming "60 Minutes" Report on Iraq's Nuclear Threat At 9 PM EST on Wednesday, January 27, CBS' new program "60 Minutes II" will feature a report on Iraq's continuing nuclear threat and on inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency in Iraq.
